Job Overview:
The Hydraulic Engineer for Fire Trucks is responsible for designing, testing, maintaining, and optimizing hydraulic systems used in fire trucks and emergency response vehicles. This role involves applying engineering principles to ensure the hydraulic systems are efficient, reliable, and meet safety standards. The Hydraulic Engineer will collaborate closely with design teams, production, and service departments to develop and maintain hydraulic systems that support the operations of fire trucks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design & Development:
Design hydraulic systems for fire trucks, including pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and other essential components.
Develop hydraulic schematics and diagrams based on technical specifications and requirements for fire truck applications.
Work closely with other engineering teams to integrate hydraulic systems with other fire truck systems, such as water pumps, aerial ladders, and rescue equipment.
2. System Testing & Validation:
Conduct testing on hydraulic systems to ensure they meet safety, functionality, and performance standards.
Perform simulations, troubleshooting, and adjustments to optimize the efficiency and durability of hydraulic systems under real-world conditions.
Analyze system failures and recommend improvements based on test results.
3. Maintenance & Support:
Provide ongoing maintenance, diagnostic support, and troubleshooting for hydraulic systems in operational fire trucks.
Offer technical assistance to service teams to resolve hydraulic issues during routine maintenance or repairs.
Ensure systems are compliant with safety regulations and industry standards.
4. Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure hydraulic systems comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
Prepare technical documentation and reports for internal use and client presentations.
5. Collaboration & Coordination:
Work closely with product managers, fire truck designers, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of hydraulic systems into vehicle designs.
Liaise with suppliers to source hydraulic components and materials, ensuring quality and cost-efficiency.
Skills & Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, or a related field. A Master's degree or specialization in hydraulics is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hydraulic system design, ideally within the automotive, fire truck, or emergency vehicle industry.
